Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers says he “learned a lot” during his four months at Ohio State and says he still cherishes the ...

[Music] your first question is going to come from Bill robinowitz Bill go ahead hi Quinn bill reinitz from The Columbus Dispatch um you're obviously in Columbus only one semester what stands out to you about that time and and your decision to come and your decision to go um obviously CJ strout had established himself I'm sure that was a big reason but if you could kind of talk about your time here um yeah um learned a lot while I was there under you know coach day and and CJ and just that whole room was awesome to to be around and know super thankful for for that time that I got to spend there and like I said I learned a whole lot so um I don't regret any decision I made on going or or anything like that so um but the main reason I went was I felt like I had a you know a great relationship with with the coaching staff and you know they were winning a lot of games and um I wanted to go be a part of something like that and um the reason that uh I came back to Texas was one you know to be closer to where I'm from and just closer to the resources that I have and you know the relationships that I've built over time just being from Texas your next question is gonna come from Joe cook Joe go ahead hey Quinn kind of along those lines what was one of the biggest tips that you got from CJ and do you still keep up with him as well now he's uh not too far from you Houston yeah no we don't we don't keep up that much but um you know I got one of his receivers that he played with in high school in Silas Balden so we we caught up a little bit over that just talking about Silas but um you know it's it's been fun to watch him and as his NFL career you know continues and everything but um you know what I really learned from from the guys in that room is really how to be a college quarterback and kind of what it takes to be a college quarterback from preparing in the film room and taking that on to practice and then ultimately the game your next question is going to come from Nicole Sheeran Nicole go ahead hey Quinn just kind of going off of that as well what's it going to be like going up against you know your former coach and Ryan day but you've also got some of your former teammates Ty Williams called you his guy the other day and you've got you know Mecca bua guys like that so what that what's that going to be like for you yeah it's gonna be awesome just to to get to see all those guys again I mean in the semester that I was there I feel like I made you know some pretty good relationship while I was there and um you know those guys were those guys were fun to be around when I was there they they took me in and and kind of in a weird time for sure for as me coming in as you know kind of in the middle of fall camp and you know some of those guys just kind of you know saying what's up to me it was simple as that and you know kind of Welcome welcoming me in and you know I felt like I belong there and um it was it's going to be fun to get to see those guys um you know me me and Jack soya were roommates my freshman year with a couple other guys so it's it's going to be it's going to be cool to get to see those guys for sure your next question is going to come from Terry Middleton Terry go ahead when good afternoon um so I'm curious from your time here at Texas do you remember a time when not only coach sarkeesian AJ milwe the rest of the entire staff and team when they put their complete and unwavering trust in you as their quarterback do you remember that time and what was it like do well I mean sorry so someone say something nope okay um well I could tell you my first fall Camp here um obviously I was battling with Hudson Hudson card to to earn the starting job and then towards the end of that Sark and me had a you know a good conversation where he pretty much told me that it's it's my job and you know I think that was a big step for me obviously because it makes things a whole lot easier whenever you do know that you're going to be the quarterback and especially the starter um it just helps my confidence for sure and then you know that year there was definitely some ups and downs um with going on with the injury you know we we came out the first quarter against Alabama and in 2022 and um you know we were rolling as an offense and I feel like that obviously helped build confidence and and me and then everybody around me and um from from then on out it's kind of just built on from then your next question is gonna come from Dan hope Dan go ahead hey Quinn just want to ask from your time at Ohio State are there any specific relationships you made with people there that have really stayed strong for you to this day well I mean me me and Kyle still still talk to get him out I know he's not there anymore but um we talk often and I mean I I guess it's been a little bit but to me those relationships feel like if I'd see him you know walking down the side of the road it'd be like you know I was hanging out with them yesterday I just feel like those the relationship that I built there were just they were they were definitely super special for sure your next question is g to come from Chip Brown chip go ahead qu what is what is a a finish to the Peach Bowl like you had fourth and 13 and then turning right around hitting Gunner for the touchdown then hitting Matt for the two-point conversion what what does that do for your confidence and as a quarterback the biggest moment to deliver yeah I think that's you know it's it's awesome for everybody around around us and everybody around me and you know whenever you know we had our backs up against the wall for sure in that game you know fourth and 13 you know in a moment we had to have it and you know Matt made a great play um on on a double move and you know I think that that single play allowed us to to regain momentum and and go on to to win the rest of that game and it's definitely huge for for our confidence just cuz you know being in those type of moments those God of habit moments and and coming out with a win is is huge and what what has to happen against Ohio State what you know what kind of performance does the offense need to have for you all to pull off this win yeah I mean we just got to go play our game and execute at a high level and you know have first and second down wins that will ultimately lead to Shorter third downs and more manageable third downs and if able to do that then the the drive will continue to work down the field and then you know obviously we have to score in the Red Zone field goals I don't think we'll get it done your next question is going to come from Kurt blls Kurt go ahead qu if you size up the Ohio State Defense and especially your old friend Jack Sawyer uh what stands out what jumps out at you I know they had 12 sacks in the last two games so how would you assess them well I think that they're a really high effort group and and they play super hard and you know they're coached really well and whenever you have coaches like that that that put the schemes in that they have and you know it's they create you know mismatches and and they create you know one-on ones that you know they do a good job of of um you know Max iing every opportunity that they that they get and you know I think they do a really good job of covering on the back end I think they're just a really good overall defense your next question is gonna come from Sam Khan Sam go ahead hey Quinn uh when you first got to Ohio State I think it was in the middle of training camp you get reclassified can you kind of talk about kind of what the motivation was to arrive then and what the challenge was like joining the team at that juncture kind of in the middle of camp yeah well um I guess one of the main things was that there was that I don't know if you guys remember or not but the Texas legislature wasn't going to allow High School football players to be paid and you know me and my family had a pretty big opportunity in front of us that you know we felt that it was a good a good decision for for me to go on and you know forego my senior year and enroll early at Ohio State and you know have the opportunity to to have some some good money uh in our pockets as a family and um sorry what was the back end of that question yes just uh it in getting to the team in the middle of Camp I imagine that was the challenge what was that like yeah no it was it was definitely definitely had to grow up super fast um you know as you know fall Camp is not easy and um you know going from a high school schedule to where you know you're practicing after school whatever it is practicing before school and you know for me to kind of going in the middle of fall camp and um you know practice at a college level was definitely uh a shock for sure um but again I'm just super thankful for my opportunity that I that I had up there you you mentioned your support system here and being closer to that was it difficult to be away from them as you kind of went through that transition there and and not getting to play as much yeah you know it's definitely tough whenever you know I've never really been a backup in my life and you know obviously CJ was you know very much deserving to to be playing for sure and you I'm a young kid you know um but you know it's tough whenever you're supposed to be a senior and you know you see all your all your buddies who you grew up with you know still playing football and you know I'm just um sitting obviously because know I wasn't prepared to to go play a game you know I just got in the middle of fall camp but you know going back to it I think again it was just just a shock for me to to to go into uh going from high school level to college level we're gonna get a few extra minutes with Quinn and we're gonna get in as many questions as we can but not all of them next one is GNA come from Danny Davis go ahead hey Quin now that you've had a chance to kind of look over the film and reflect on it what stands out about that fourth and 13 play and where do that kind of rank on your personal favorite plays um of your call time and Texas yeah well I mean it's definitely up there for sure but um I don't even think I watched it on film to be honest with you you know just straight we were straight to Ohio State your next question is going to come from Donovan bridge for go ahead hey Quinn Donovan bridge for txa and 24 news what do you think will be the key to setting the tone early against Ohio State and how important is it to get a fast start in a game of this magnitude and can you kind of tell me about like the chemistry how you were talking about earlier of the offense and how that'll play into the execution yeah well um you know I think is if we go out and just play our game get completions early and um just continue to have first and second down wins I think we'll be in a good spot to where we want to whenever SAR wants to call those shots downfield we'll be in a good enough spot to where he's comfortable enough to to call those shots or whatever it is and um you know the chemistry off the field definitely helps on the field for sure because you know just the relationship and the Rapport that we've all built together carries on to the field you know we want to play for each other we want to play for to the guy to our right and our left it just adds that you know extra extra motivation if if it's needed we got time for two more questions for Quinn first is g to come from Eric Henry go ahead Eric afternoon Quinn uh just want to revisit that fourth and 14 uh we spoke with Matt after the game and he said that you were kind of the calming presence in the Huddle I'm just curious how important is it for you as the quarterback to be that calming presence not you know no disrespect to Jake or kelvin or guys like that who El here are great players but how important is it for you as the quarterback to be that calming presence for everybody yeah I think that's huge for for the quarterback to be that guy who's going to be calm within the storm and just a guy to kind of rely on and you know I I I picture it as when I want when when I when I see a receiver an old lineman a running back tight end look at me I want them to see the calmness and hear the calmness in my voice and you know just see like oh he's calm like you know we got this we're we're we're good you know if he's comfortable I'm I'm going to be comfortable and you know I just want to be that guy that just kind of that example for for other guys who you know might be a little nervous for the for the situation or for the moment but you know it's the guys that make the plays around me your final question is g to come from Joey Kaufman go ahead Joey when as far as um the things you learned in your semester at Ohio State is there anything is there anything specifically or anything that's carry over from your time under coach day that you feel like was a good habit or something you learned about football or or just light that's carried over yeah well I mean going back to it again I think that they did a really good job of preparing for from week to week and that's like the first time that I really got to see it firsthand at at this level you know how to watch film and and how to prepare for the game for the upcoming game and um you know because obviously it's different from from the high school level you know um and getting to see that first hand I think was was awesome for me ...
